1949 Lillooet Image
by A.W.A. Phair

More than just a photo of Lillooet’s setting, this 1949 image speaks of a community literally rising from the ashes of the disastrous 1948 fire which consumed the business district on the riverside of Main Street across from the Victoria Hotel.

Mr. A.W.A. (Arthur William Armit) “Artie” Phair (1880-1967), respectfully referred to as ‘Mr. Lillooet’, was a prolific photographer turning many pictures into postcards. He left a legacy of images chronicling the beauty and development of Lillooet.
