Evaluation of Growing Up Lillooet

·         A personal account of the author’s life and growing up in the small community of Lillooet BC, from birth in 1943 to young adulthood in 1961.

·         It is well written in an easy to read coherent and logical fashion guiding the reader from humorous chapter to humorous chapter.

·         This book is well developed and will appeal to varied audiences, both younger to older, who either lived in similar communities during the same time period, or are curious about what life was like in small-town communities.

·   A very thoughtful and well-researched book that presents various characters and their perspectives of incidents at that time.

·         Well documented throughout each chapter with supportive photographs.

In summary, this is a wonderful accounting of a young boy growing up in a small BC community. It is well researched, well written, informative while also being humorous. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.

A fabulous trip down memory lane. I loved this book. It captured all the fun and joy of living in a small town in the 50s, a time when people cared and life was so simple.

Chapter 1 - “Where to, Kid?”

Best book I have read in years! This is a wonderful book and was hard to put down. Oh, the memories of growing up in a small town.

CKWX 1130 broadcast the Vancouver Mounties Triple-A baseball games.  I thought Jim Robson and Ron Robinson traveled with the team to broadcast away games in Spokane, Salt Lake City, Sacramento and elsewhere in the Pacific Coast League.  In fact, they never left Vancouver. They were in their Vancouver studio, receiving an abbreviated teletype summary of the in-progress game from a technician at the far-off ball park, and
re-enacting an approximation of the actual actions taking place hundreds of miles away.

Some of my happiest memories of growing up were of lying on my bed, eyes closed and hands behind my head, all alone in the darkened room, listening to ball games as they faded in and out.

Read ‘The Boys of Summer’ and find out how Jim and Ron simulated the crack of the bat and other authentic sound effects.  Read on to other childhood stories of the 1950s.   Find them all in the easy-reading short stories of Terry Thorne’s…

BONUS: You will also discover a great 1950s photo of Lillooet’s own Kings of Swat.

“I was captivated - my homework would have to wait.”

As you read Terry's stories and recollections, your own growing up memories, will come flooding back to you. Although the setting is in Lillooet BC, which has its own little bit of magic, the stories, events, people, and his friends could have occurred to others in other communities. That’s what makes it readable by all.

A magnificent job of accurately and truthfully telling our tales.  I've had a hard time putting it down; for someone who isn't an avid reader, that's something!
